For those working as a skilled technician, concept artist or illustrator, you are most likely using generative AI in some shape or form. The democratization of AI through various platforms like ChatGPT for written content or Stable Diffusion for visual content has empowered content creators to generate copy and images that look they have been produced by a professional with many years of experience.
Whilst this sounds scary for those in the industry like myself, it is also a huge opportunity. The outlook for 3D artists is great, as the overall amount of content needed in the industry will increase. The impact of the Streaming Wars – Netflix vs the rest – along with Metaverse and Social Media expansion, will all requires huge amounts of content, with an ever increasing demand for quality.
What will change, is the distribution of what artists are required to do. Some tasks we do today will become obsolete, the need for new skill sets will emerge from this transformation.
Learning how to use the right AI tools in your areas of expertise will be an important demand as these tools are being integrated more and more in mainstream applications such as Blender, Maya or Photoshop. So, our focus at SPRING Production is on working closely with clients to help them understand these changes, how it will affect their marketing outputs, what skills both the supplier and client teams will require to manage the processes, and what parts of production processes can be supported by AI.
